Vera's Happy Life

Vera is a globetrotter at heart, between Brazil, Portugal and Germany. She is a positive, curious and creative artist. She is grateful to have her passion for drawing as a job, a wonderful family and to have had the chance to live in some of the most beautiful countries where she met some wonderful people.

She now lives in Munich but loves to escape to Lisbon, her home town.

The Happy STYLE of Vera

Her black and white illustrations are simple, fashionable and “charming”. She likes to start with quick pencil sketches to capture the mood or spirit and movement of a person, then she draws the details in pen and ink and finalizes them on the computer.

We can feel in Vera’s features her many years spent in the fashion world at InStyle and Elle… and her passion for interior design.

Why we LOVE Vera

Sometimes things happen by chance. Our meeting with Vera in Munich was love at first sight. We fell in love with her radiant and generous personality as well as with her charming and elegant portraits.

Vera transforms us into a fashion print and transposes us into settings worthy of the greatest decorators. She reminds us of the illustrations in the fashion magazines of the 30s and 40s, in which such talented artists as Gruau, the designer of the fashion houses, and Erté, the Russian designer whose best-known drawing is Symphony in Black, which depicts a tall, slender woman dressed in black and holding a black greyhound on a leash .

We let you discover Vera, the Erté of the 21st century!

The Happy Funky PORTRAIT of Vera

♄ Do you remember your first aesthetic shock?
The first entry in my artistic and creative “INDEX” was at the age of 10, I was strolling through my mother’s friends’ living room in the 80s: a silver Coke bottle, a framed sweater and lots of glamorous numbers. strolling through my mother’s friends’ living room in the 1980s: a silver Coke bottle, a framed jumper and many, many glamorous issues of British Vogue. Since then, my “eyes went travelling” (a reference to Diana Vreeland).

♄ The artist you would like to meet? What would you say to her?
The great art patron Peggy Guggenheim, I would have asked her for a job at her openings in her palace in Venice… imagine… Peggy, ME! and the “others”: Calder, Max Ernst, Chagall, Henry Moore, Giacometti, all there.

♄ What is your favourite colour? What does it inspire you?
Green and purple, from nature to fabrics! Inspiration is a product of the synapses in my brain… Sincere, funny, polite and intelligent people inspire me.

♄ Which museum gives you the greatest emotion? Why?
Oh so much… but to name just one, I love the “Pinakothek der Moderne” in Munich, it merges craftsmanship, design, painting and architecture – they have the best shows on architectural concepts, utopias and their impact in terms of how people live in cities around the world.

♄ Which piece of art would you buy without hesitation if you had an unlimited budget?
Picasso’s original series of “Taurus I – XIV” , a Calder mobile to marvel at and some “new – vintage” Kimonos from Rianna & Nina to wear and shine.

♄ In which city do you feel happiest? Why do you think so? Share your 3 favourite addresses.
Lisbon. Close to the sea. In the city, I love going to the castle, sitting by the Tagus River in front of the MAC Museum and walking through the streets near the Principe Real district.

♄ What book keeps you up all night?
“Where the Crawdads Sing” by Delia Owens, “The world of Gloria Vanderbilt” by Wendy Goodman and “AI Superpowers” by Kai Fu Lee.

♄ What are your biggest sources of inspiration?
Travelling – looking for old traditional crafts, costumes, fabrics, etc. But also books, good conversations and a certain way of thinking:
“I know it is a crazy idea, but how could it possibly be possible?” (P.Diamandis)

♄ What’s the funkiest thing you’ve done in your life?
In 1999 I was a fashion assistant and shot in Aberdeen at a David Bowie concert. The fashion director had a short interview backstage with him. I thought I would certainly stay calm and cool, but as soon as he stood in front of us, gently answering questions, I became so nervous… I blushed, stood speechless, paralysed and transfixed by his aura.

♄ What is your definition of happiness?
Following the right (life) path, being loved, having good friends and following your dreams… living by the sea.
